Off-the-shelf kitchens are designed for an average apartment. Dubai Marina apartments are not average — odd corners, sea-facing walls, columns and tight galley runs are everywhere. That is why a custom kitchen, built to your exact floor plan, almost always makes more of the space. Here is what to know before you start.
Why custom beats flat-pack in the Marina
A made-to-measure kitchen is cut, finished and assembled for your specific layout, so it uses every millimetre — right up to the ceiling, into the awkward return, around the column. You also choose the internal configuration: the drawers, the pull-outs, the appliance positions. Flat-pack forces your apartment to fit the cabinet; custom does the opposite.
Materials and finishes that last
Marina apartments deal with humidity and strong light, so material choice matters more than it would inland:
- Carcasses — moisture-resistant board is worth it in a coastal high-rise.
- Fronts — matte lacquer, textured laminate and real-wood veneer all behave differently under Marina light; see samples in daylight before deciding.
- Worktops — engineered stone and quartz handle daily use and heat better than softer surfaces.
- Hardware — soft-close hinges and quality runners are the parts you touch every day; do not cut corners here.
How long it takes
A typical Marina kitchen replacement runs about 18–25 working days from design sign-off to final installation, assuming the layout is agreed and materials are confirmed. Building approvals and appliance lead times can extend that, which is why a written milestone schedule matters.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Skipping the 3D design — approve the look on screen before a single panel is cut, not after.
- Forgetting ventilation and power — extractor routing and socket positions are easier to fix on paper.
- Choosing finishes under showroom lighting — always check them in your own apartment's light.
- Using a separate supplier and fitter — when the people who built it also install it, there is no one to blame if something does not fit.
Getting it right the first time
A good custom kitchen is designed once, built once and fitted once. Start with accurate measurements and a 3D layout, lock the materials, and work with a team that manufactures and installs under one roof. That is what turns a tight Marina galley into a kitchen that looks like someone actually thought about it.
